It is no secret here at Mitsubishi Edmonton that, as a brand, Mitsubishi Motors would like to focus much more on the development of SUVs and crossovers in the years ahead. Sales numbers across all makes and models show a trend of Canadian consumers buying more and more units among the SUV segments, as families who used to drive minivans now prefer SUVs, and individuals who once drove sedans now prefer crossovers. It is logical that Mitsubishi engineers would devote their attention to new SUVs, and the forthcoming 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross gives Edmonton drivers a fantastic look at what they can expect in the years ahead.
Long-time Mitsubishi Edmonton customers may remember the “Eclipse” moniker as having belonged to a sportier two-door coupe, but the sportiest of the three-diamond crossovers now bears that name as a sort of spiritual successor to the old fan favorite. Before knowing anything about the performance of the 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, it is clear that powerful, sleek aesthetics was a major priority for designers. No question about it, this CUV is a lovely automobile.
Looks only go so far, however, and there is a lot more to this new crossover than meets the eye. Slated in between the Mitsubishi Outlander and Mitsubishi Outlander Sport in terms of size, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross is expected to generate its power from a brand new 1.5-liter, direct-injected, turbocharged engine, but thus far we still have no idea what Mitsubishi Edmonton customers may expect in terms of power. What we do know is that it will feature an eight-speed manual override Sport mode for a more engaging driving experience, suggesting that performance will be front and center in terms of what customers love about the automobile.
Inside, both leg room and storage room are ample, while technology abounds. The infotainment system features an intuitive eight-inch touchscreen display and is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Meanwhile, there is a head-up display to show drivers information like speed and navigation directions without having to take their eyes off the road. The interior itself is well-furnished and comfortable, with a stylish design that matches the sporty exterior.
While this vehicle is not expected to arrive here at Mitsubishi Edmonton until early in 2018, it never is too early to start getting excited about some of the great new models the automaker has planned for the immediate and long-term future. The 2018 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross already has generated more than its fair share of buzz, and we expect that hum to increase exponentially the closer it gets to its actual release.
